Be like Jesus

Humility vs Pride

As servants of God, we have learned that is important to be humble with others. Through Jesus Christ we obtained the character of God, humility is one of his characteristics. I have been living on the mission field for 16 months, I’ve learned that this characteristic is so important and fundamental in every moment of my life now. It is so easy to compare this new place with my country, my sending church, my culture and find myself saying: there are few things we do better. Even when I know that my country at the moment is not a perfect place. I feel so proud of being Mexican, of the culture and of the unique way we enjoy life.

I have to say this to me: “This is a new house, God is my home”

I have seen other missionaries from other countries doing and feeling the same. It is not bad, it is normal but sometimes is not healthy do that as missionaries, doing it very often and say: ¡oh in my country we do better! having better, we celebrate better, etc.

We love God and we are here to serve others. This is the land that God has given us. We are here to be instruments of God with love.

“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”James 4:6 NIV

Purpose vs Task

“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

Philippians 2:13 NIV

God created us with a purpose more than to complete a task.

Jesus Christ had a task to complete here on the earth but the God’s purpose was greater.

God has called us in different ways to do different ministries. One day someone told me that he had the idea of missionaries working with orphans or poor people…and he asked me a question ..what is your job if you are not doing it here? I replied, well am not doing that right now, I don’t know if I will do it later, but there are many other activities and ministries I can work on. There so many different ministries and missionaries like my friend who works for an organization who takes care of missionaries from all over the world welcoming them with beautiful houses in several countries where they can go on vacation and have a wonderful time off.

It is clear to me that I am here with a purpose . I have to remember it every day. Some days I have a lot of activities, there are days or weeks when I have nothing special to do! ( like today is May 1st but I am writing ) Remember this if you are a follower of Jesus Christ we can have different activities but always will be the same purpose.

Purpose/Dictionary definition/The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

God’s definition:

“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” Exodus 9:16, NIV

Remember our call is not just to complete tasks, everything you do has the same purpose: Glorify the Name of Our Lord.

The day is not to fulfill with activities, is to fulfill his purpose.

God is always working in you and around you to fulfill his good purpose.

If today we don’t have much to do, there is always room for making plans for tomorrow….and get some rest too!

My prayer to God :

Let me be aware of every opportunity to show your name and proclaim your name.
